Much like the #1 Ladies Detective Agency series, this series is less about mystery and detectives, and more about the lead character and her life. A fine book and yet another good McCall Smith series.

This is the third in the Isabel Dalhousie series. I like the series so far. Nothing dramatic happens, but the main character, an applied ethicist, is thoughtful and reflective.

Disappointing! (Not nearly as good as other Alexander McCall Smith books.)

This book is a very pleasing discovery, its intelligent but very easy to read. Can't wait to read the other 59 books by Alexander McCall Smith if they're as good has this one.

A little bit different from his usual style - more romance, less crime.

This is a gently told, fun read about a single Scottish lady, Isabel Dalhousie, who likes to ponder philosophical dilemmas while helping others iron out problems in their lives. The author's voice is a bit intrusive (all the characters sound the same when they speak) but it's a lovely story. I also find the Edinburgh setting very appealing and there is quite a lot of description of various Edinburgh places as well as aspects of Scottish culture.

There is something so serene and simple about all of Smith's works. I love them, especially the Isabel Dalhousie series.
