This, had some good parts, but was disjointed and just didn't impress in the end. No where near as good as her 1st one.

Cecilia Ahern’s formula is romance + magical realism. She’s creative and inventive, so her forms of magical realism are a cut above the supernatural or ordinary magical. In Thanks for the Memories, Joyce Conway receives Justin Hitchcock’s life memories along with his blood in a transfusion following her miscarriage. Joyce is an anti-intellectual real estate agent in Dublin, while Justin is a visiting American professor of arts and architecture who got talked into giving blood so he could get a date with the director of the blood bank. The rest of Thanks for the Memories is devoted to Joyce figuring out what has happened and connecting with Justin. Because of the convenient messed-up state of their personal lives, it’s apparent that Justin and Joyce are going to get together. It’s only a matter of how and when – including some farcical mishaps that seem written for the stage or screen, with Justin searching for Joyce while Joyce is where Justin is supposed to be, etc.

Thanks for the Memories is an enjoyable romance and will no doubt make a good movie some day. However, Ahern can write a better book (for example her earlier No Place Like Here, with more question of who will get together, and more character development for the supporting characters. And the main characters for that matter – Joyce hated school until she got Justin’s memories. Does this make them instantly compatible? Ahern conveys Joyce’s worst moments so well, and her confusion over her predicament. And she’s judicious in the use of her fantasy elements. In the interview with the author at the end of my edition, she states that her purpose in writing is to entertain. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. But she could still go deeper and write a better, entertaining book.

I, like others who have reviewed this book, did not get into it. It was boring in the middle and after trying for two months to finish it, I just gave up and read the end. Borrow it from me, I won't even want it back.
I honestly couldn't finish this book. I got BORED, BORED, BORED with it... It took me almost two months to finally concede and read the end. I really tried to stick with it. Honest! It just must not have been the right kind of book for me.
