For me, this was the slowest of the first four in the series - but still a great read. A few too many deus ex vampira and the revelation of convenient powers, yet still with that wonderful Other feel - I can't say enough about the translation - it has a flavor all its own.

These books just keep getting better: the plots get twistier, Gesar and Zabulon get craftier, and Anton remains delightfully two steps behind everybody else while still representing as a fairly bad-ass magician. Word.

I only gave this book a 3 and not a 4 because of the ending. It was kind of cliche, but not bad as a book overall.

My favorite in the Night Watch series! Anton is back, chasing the Dark Ones in a tale that blows your mind more with each chapter. The scenery, as always, is described beautifully, whether it's a posh flat in Moscow or a ratty old train station in Kazhakstan. The characters even make a return trip to Samarkand, an ancient, mysterious city that has beckoned to me ever since it was first described in Night Watch. Makes me want to buy a ticket on the Trans-Siberian Express and visit all these fabulous places.

I've read the first third and fourth of the "NightWatch" series (the second "DayWatch" should be here today...can't wait!) and TwilightWatch, the third instalment, has been my favourite. Great characters and imagery with thrilling mystery and action set in a very well developed fantasy realm parallel to our own.

The third book, I hated to see it all end. Hopefully they turn this one into a movie also. Great read.

Didn't expect the twist at the end of the story. What a great storyteller Lukyanenko is!
