I've come to really like this author. Her books draw you in, I wasn't expecting to read it so quickly. This topic, about 4 mothers to be, didn't really grab me at first, as I can't relate as much as some, but I was soon addicted to the zany characters and funny situations. One thing I did notice though, were some disturbing similarities to plot lines from Sex and the City. They seemed out and out copied. There was nothing like this is in the other Jennifer Weiner books that I've read. I'm looking forward to the next one, Good in Bed, that expands on a nominal character from the book of short stories I recently read.

Jennifer Weiner is becoming one of my favorite authors. She can make me laugh and within a few paragraphs, make me cry. This book is a story of friendship, new motherhood, loss, changing expectations. It's been a while since I had a newborn around the house, but so much of this is very, very familiar to me.

This book captures the challenges, joys and crazy ways that motherhood changes us all! I especially enjoyed the way that women from different backgrounds found friendship in a random way ... prenatal yoga class. It's so true how you meet your closest friends in ways like this, sharing the roller coaster ride of emotions when you become a mother for the first time. GREAT work of fiction! Loved it!

I took this on a beach vacation and it was a nice, light read. Good characters and interesting stories that intertwined. It made me terrified of having kids, but a good book, nonetheless. ;-)

The story eventually surprised me, as I expected "fluff" books to be more about romance. There were elements of romance that were very brief but the overall story is about four women and their lives as new moms. But it was an engaging story that I looked forward to reading.

The stories the women had about their babies and their husbands were hilarious and maddening. It reminded me of my own life as a new mom (for both of my children) and how tired I was; how exhausting taking care of a newborn is. When they say it gets easy, it really does. Reading about these women with their newborns made me *so* thankful that I was out of that phase. Sure, my kids give me hardship in other ways but no way close to the hardship of a newborn.

I get it! Having a career is hard. Finding a man is hard. Marriage is hard. Having a baby is hard.

This book follows the stories of four women dealing with any combination of the above. I think the author was trying to show how women from such diverse backgrounds and situations all have something in common, but the personalities were a bit too caricatured, and the way the woman supported each other and dealt with their lives was a bit too pat.

One of the things I really like about Jennifer Weiner's books is that, even though I may have nothing in common with the characters (not married, no kids, no plans to have kids), I can still relate to them. Her main character - presumably based loosely on herself - is usually somewhat awkward and somewhat self-unassured...always feeling like they're somehow out of place or making a misstep in the eyes of all the perfect strangers around her.

Her sense of humor in her writing also gets me every time. I have not read any of Jennifer Weiner's books without literally laughing out loud at least a couple of times during the story. Sometimes, I find myself with eyes closed, head back a little and just chuckling going "oh, god, do I know how THAT feels". I think that's what makes a good read and a great writer - someone who can write characters that even people who are very different from them can still relate to.

I've lent this book to friends just so they could read them and I highly recommend any of her novels to anyone.

My favorite part of this book was all the little Philadelphia mentions. I liked when I could picture where they were! I'm not a mom and won't be for a while so I didn't relate to the main characters but it was nice to see how different women of different backgrounds came together.

I love this book, shows the joys and turbulence of pregnancy, life post pregnancy, and of the early death of a child in a truthful and understanding way. And the friendships we have and gain through our kids.

The tone is very chick lit, but the characters and life events are more realistic.

I read this book right after having my baby so I could relate to the various characters getting used to life with a new baby. As a new mother, I found the Lia story line very sad, but knew in typical Weiner style it would somehow resolve itself. The book effectively shows that life is not always as you picture it, but there is beauty in the messy day to day that is parenthood.

The hallmarks of Weiner writing still exist in this book, but unfortunately this one sags from being too crowded. Trademark witty dialogue return, but only that is original. While I understand that she is writing a book that her audience can relate to, I still feel that the characters were a tad bit too stereotypical to truly appreciate. I actually lost track of the mother-in-laws in the beginning, except for Lia's mom who stood quite distinctly from the others.

The next bit is a bit of a bias from me as I've never been the big fan of the 'happy ending', but I do think that she wraps it up too nicely. This undermines the reality of her story. To keep one (or even two) of the mothers from resolving the issues would add to the impact of the message, and reinforce the ideal of sisterhood with the support that they show for one another. Giving everyone a 'happily ever after' left me with a 'meh' feeling, as it was entirely expected and really a bit dull.

Her writing is good for the most part, though a bit more visual and action details could really add spades to the tale. Fiddle with the ending, mix in more variety with the characters (a caring and lovable mother-in-law anyone? They all can't come from hell...) and spice things up. Don't give the readers EXACTLY what they want 8p.
