Fantastic work. McCullough brings history to life. Very much so worth the read. And a thousand times better than the mini-series.

Loved this book. John Adams was the force behind American Independence. His significance has been sorely overlooked.

Inspirational and insightful look into the life of a Christian statesman. Adams encourages me because he had clear and marked gifts, while at the same time being honest about his faults. His faults are indeed in view here, but not in the cynical critical mode of most contemporary biographies. Adams should stand taller among the founding fathers.

One of the best Historical Biographies ever written! McCullough goes inside the life of this man who loved to work on his farm, but called to fate stepped up to the plate to become a founder of our nation. The interaction - warfare between Adams and Jefferson is clearly brought home to the reader through the letters written between them, as well as the deep love and admiration shared by John and his wife Abigail is poetically shared with the reading audience. I truly enjoyed reading this book, and like my father I was almost sad when I came to the end of the book.

There's always a Dutch connection. Did you know that The Netherlands was the first European country to recognize the independence of the United States?

Every American should read this book.
It's a really good biography. It doesn't even feel like you're reading a history book. A fresh view on the American Revolution after the cut and dry way it's taught in school.

I never knew what importance John Adams' role was in shaping our country. His love for Abigail and his family is rivaled only by his love for his country. It's been said in other reviews, but I'll say it, too. I knew he and Abigail would eventually pass away, but when McCullough wrote the words "John Adams was dead." I truly experienced a sense of loss and sadness. It took me quite awhile to get through this book, but now that it's over, I feel richer for having read about this true American patriot.
