This is not an overly wrong review its just my favorite of Pern books. I am in love the characters and the images she supplies. I know I read it every six or seven months just because she paints a really real picture and life that shapes a man who is a key figure in other books.

If there were a chance of a 10 star rating on this book, I'd give it. Robinton is one of my favourite of McCaffrey's Pernese characters to date, and learning more about his early years and what led him to becoming MasterHarper was enjoyable and interesting! Thoroughly recommend it, and no, you can't loan my copy!

Although I loved reading more about Robinton's life, I really wish she would have gone beyond the start of Dragonflight. I really wanted to know more about Robiton's feeling about Menolly among many other things just touched on in the later books. I was also annoyed by the obvious inconsistencies with the Harper Hall books -- most glarringly the lowly position of woman in the Harper Hall in the HH books and the referring of woman as Masters in MHP.

I rather liked this trilogy, even if there weren't many dragons in it... Bubbly pies, musicians, marks... Such good memories...

Great book! Other than the original trilogy, the best of the Pern book in my opinion! Gives a great background on one of my favorite characters.
