I was very impressed with this, my first Ken Follett novel. Now I'm interested in his other works. I agree more with the other (duplicate) entries for the book that list it as having 4.5 stars, rather than this one - which has only 3.5. IMO, this book was better than average - I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Wish I could find the darn movie, but it's not easily available.

I read and enjoyed Follett's "Pillars of the Earth," which I loved, so I decided to give this book a try. It was worth the read, but not nearly as good as "Pillars..." This is suspenseful thriller set in WWII Cairo, Egypt, about a Nazi spy and the British investigator trying to capture him (with the aide of a Jewish Egyptian woman he recruits to the cause). It starts off a bit slow, but by the end it becomes a page-turner you won't want to put down. The story is gripping and the characters are great.

Saw the movie before I read the book. Loved them both. I think this is Follett's most suspensful book.
