I read the entire Agatha Christie's collection as a teenager. I remember them as being very entertaining, and badly translated into Portuguese. And no, I did not have anything better to do at the time (or so I thought). Anyway, I loved the suspense, the middle-upper class settings , and a lot of the characters - not necessarily the detectives.

This is my first Agatha Christie novel of ~10 that I own. It is a well written one and nice language is used by the characters. The order of some immediate sentences could have been reversed to make the book an easier read, but overall a good concept. No good insightful quotes in it though, however, some pretty nice one-liners.

When Emily Arundell fell down the stairs, she was told that she had tripped over her beloved dog Bob's ball. But the more she came to think about her acident, the more she became convinced that someone, a member of her own family, had made an attempt on her life. In desperation, she wrote to Hercule Poirot, hoping to receive some answers. However, the letter is delayed and, by the time Poirot acts on the information, Miss Arundell is dead. Was it natural death, as all of those around her profess? Or had someone this time succeeded in disposing of her? Poirot begins to investigate, and soon discovers a house full of heirs who all had reason to wish the old woman dead. The only question is, can Poirot work out the truth from all the lies he is told?, and what part can the 'dumb witness' play in elucidating the truth? A definate read for any Poirot fan.
