well, I sorta read it. It was lots of details and I couldn't ever figure out where it was going other than it was the story of two basically dysfunctional people and half way through it I just couldn't get any hope for it to lighten up and not be so depressing so i quit reading it...there's got to be better stories out there to read. the characters were interesting enough, but it was just too much of a downer to me.

Also reading this for the LRC (mother-daughter theme this year). Slow going so far but has promise to be very interesting.

I'm not really sure what to think of this book. Parts of it -- especially about the daughter -- I loved while other parts and the ending, I'm not sure what they were about. Still, worth a read ... and an editor.

It's somewhat of an odd book. I personally got a little bored of it not even half way through because its back and forth between her and her mother all the time. Who knows, I might pick it up and finish one day, but for now there are far more interesting things to do than to read this book.

Anywhere But Here might be the best, most vivid go west novel of my lifetime. It captures the transient nature of families in our country these days, and the effects of that nature on people who grow up in those families. There are chapters from the points of view of several different characters, and never a dull moment. In my opinion, this is Mona Simpson's best...and she's good.
