The contrivances are perhaps too great in places, but ultimately this short, efficient thriller ticks all the right boxes and absolutely drips with Edwardian nostalgia.

This book is wonderful. Any lover of English hotels and its glorious era of travel will love this book. The description of the Hotel is sufficiently fascinating- the rooms, the good English tea, even the 'guests'.. and of course, the excitement that cannot escape any good mystery story.

I read the entire Agatha Christie collection as a teenager. I remember them as being very entertaining, and badly translated into Portuguese. And no, I did not have anything better to do at the time (or so I thought). Anyway, I loved the suspense, the middle-upper class settings , and a lot of the characters - not necessarily the detectives.

The first Christie I read. Not the best but if you know your 'Marple-mythology' you'll get by.

No coração do West End, em Londres, numa rua tranquila, está, há muito tempo, o Hotel Bertram. Quando Miss Jane Marple se hospedou, sua única intenção era reviver na lembrança os bons momentos de quando se hospedara lá, na juventude.Jamais poderia imaginar que se veria envolvida numa sucessão de crimes.
