Story set in the American Civil War, of an ordinary boy's experience on the battlefield. Writing is very vivid, and makes you feel as if you were right there in the chaos and confusion of the battlefield.

I thought this was a great book. Crane's writing is really beautiful and descriptive. The personal struggle of Henry is a great lesson and story.

Descriptive! Extraordinarily written story of a farm boy who fights in the Civil War. The end reminds me of the end of Full Metal Jacket, "I am alive". Pick it up.

This is perhaps one of the most well written books that I have read when it comes to exhibiting a character's thought process and incorporating allusions in such an effective and meaningful way. A great read, and a great war novel.
