I agree with some of the other reviews that say that the author spent too much time on Stephen's attempts to get into the building and leave with what he came for. But, it's worth it to stick with it to get to the last section of the book. The end was my favorite. (Some of his attempts are humorus, though.)

At first I didn't think I was going to like reading a book that aluded so much to the Holocost. But I did like it. There were some really touching moments, and some exciting ones, too. A few surprises were thrown in. I wouldn't call it a thriller, though. The last part, maybe, could be considered a thriller, but not the whole book.

I also liked that he aparently based the book on a parable from Mathew. That was kind of neat. I liked this one more than Sinner.

All in all, I liked it. It's not my new favorite, but I liked it and it's worth the read.

Probably my favorite Ted Dekker book so far. It showed me how it's okay to be completely focused on God and the task He has set before me. To be "obsessed" with the pursuit!

I’m sitting here wondering why I hadn’t read “Obsessed” by Ted Dekker sooner. A generational story spanning over a time of thirty years is one of the best Dekker books I’ve read thus far.
This novel is about two equally obsessed men. One, a real-estate agent living in America with an odd “birthmark” and no clear past. His “birthmark” leads him to his mother after her death and the news that she possessed one of the Stars of David, a very expensive religious relic. He starts his search for the Star and for answers only to find himself in over his head obsessed with a picture of a woman. His obsession turns to finding her, the other star of David.. The other man grew up in a camp ran by his Nazi father. There he learned to hate and obsess over power. Thirsty for this power he obsessively searches for the Stars of David, figuratively and literally.
. Dekker takes you back and forth to each world-that of the parents, who new each other, and their own. The two eventually collide. If you don’t already have an obsession, you better get one. It’s the only way to truly have LIFE.

Written with great style! I loved how this story comes together. Blending the past with the more current past.

It was a little forgettable. Not his strongest work.

Wow! Ted Dekker is the master of adrenaline laced plots. Kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat the whole time. But his books usually have this affect on me.

If you can't say something nice ... then write a review. ... But I will start out by saying that Ted Dekker told an interesting treasure hunt story. ... He writes with power, passion and believability about the Death Camps of Nazi Germany but stumbles and bumbles when writing about 1973 Los Angeles. ... The main problem with this book is that the characters in 1973 -- who are the action figures -- are so shallow that's its hard to care about them; the transition of the central character from driven real estate developer to a man so obsessed with his Jewish heritage that he throws away the rest of his life to chase it stretches "suspension of disbelief" to the breaking point. ... Worse, Dekker introduces and kills off a young female character supposedly important in the life of the central character with about as much grace and feeling as swatting a fly. ... "Oh, Sofia is dead? ... Sad. ... Well, pass the gravy." ... And the events in a small German town toward the end of the book read more like Alice in Wonderland than a legitimate thriller. ... For instance, at one point a young woman who has no training in weapons -- that we're told of, at least -- picks up a rifle and starts plugging bad guys at a distance. Huh? ... Overall, the book starts off with a strong premise and decent characters (very strong WWII characters)and then (other than the WWI crew) spirals downward to an ending that's more silly than suspenseful. ... Yeah, yeah. ... I know Ted Dekker has sold a ton of books in the Christian fiction market; he's a "star"; but if he is the best the genre has to offer, then I'd say the whole genre is in trouble. ... For some good CF writing, check out Charles Martin or even Terri Blackstock (just for fun).
