A great book that goes in depth to explore the tiresome journey of german civilians from Brazil to Germany through the treacherous atlantic during WWII.

shallow. quick read. read it in a airport lobby waiting for a plane. Wont waste any more time on Jack higgins

Great read,with tales of civilians, military and ex-military men battling with war and nature to live to see another day. Throw in some love stories, with tragedies and you have an excellent read

A good novel, but had trouble getting into it....skimmed some of the beginning. A large number of characters to keep straight and three story lines that eventual met at the end of the novel in the waters off Scotland during WWII.

Higgins shows wonderful, and unmatchable, control over writing, in this somewhat emotional masterpiece. I, personally, loved this book for the singular reason that, it's very hard to not fall in love with atleast one of the characters. For myself, it was Gericke, the witty, and endlessly charming U-Boat commander. A must read for all. =D
