the idea that the bible invokes a "personal relationship with jesus" is totally refuted in this book. there are also some good questions about how noah's ark was impossible that I had never thought of. this argument is very good at somehow respecting and appreciating the bible as a work of human literature but at the same time denouncing it as pure myth and not to be taken literally. there are many good questions raised throughout. hopefully warren has read it!

Entertaining discussion of the nonsense put forward in Rick Warren\'s "The Purpose Driven Life" and Fundamentalist Christianity in general. Drags in some sections.

Price's polemic against popular Christian idioms and pieties should be mandatory reading by Christian before signing up. But since most Christians don't sign up, but are indoctrinated from birth, I guess that wouldn't work.

What I appreciate about Price is that he goes beyond just pointing out of the obvious obtusness of contemporary Christianity, but offers an alternative and much more reasonable way of approaching life and the search for meaning; one that can even fit if you want to keep going to a church on Sundays.

This is probably one of my most favorite books because it was not only a satire of purpose driven life but a serious and thoughtful criticism against the messages and beliefs embodied in the book. Robert M. Price is not a pastor, but a scholar of New Testament, who is well-informed about the historical criticism and hermeneutics utilized to understand the Bible. With this background knowledge Robert M. Price exposes the flaws of Purpose Driven Life on every counts.

Robert M. Price, however, not only criticizes the book but also criticizes the evangelical and fundamentalist culture. He criticized them not only for reading the bible in ways that are clearly faulty, but applying these misinterpretation in their daily life that leads to unnecessary embarrassment and social conflicts.

It is true that Robert M. Price is radically liberal for any conservative theologians and believers, but he is trying to make a point: Instead of searching for absolute meaning and purpose that leads to fanaticism, based on an untenable theological approach towards an ancient text, Robert M. Price is encourage his readers to find meaning in the human experience and condition. In this sense this makes Robert M. Price a radical Christian Humanist.

Killing a mouse with an elephant gun is the best way i could describe the efforts of this book. I know Bob personally and he says the only reason he wrote this was that a friend had asked him to. Very well, but I do think that his scholarly efforts would have been more effective and called for in writing a refutation of Strobel's triad of "Case For ______" books. I did enjoy this book very much, don't get me wrong. His examples of "[insert religion here] is not really a religion, it's a relationship/worldview/lifestyle" is priceless (which i believe he reproduced). Another thing this book is good for is exemplifying the improbability for Noah's ark. Also, Price explodes the idea that the personal relationship with Christ is an original Christian idea. Recommended for anyone tainted by Warren's book.
