I loved this book! It was so well written and just an incredible story. There were a few edgy parts, but, I truly loved it. I saw the movie as well, and was surprised that I loved that too since I usually don't like movies adapted from books I love. Highly recommend it!

The situation the main character's father finds himself in at the end of the story is so similiar to many international doctors and professionals I worked with in the 80s. Being an immigrant to the U.S. is not for the faint hearted.

I was choked while reading this book. More about the struggle and inhumanity faced in Afghanistan, it also makes you hate the protagonist. It is a very nicely written novel.

A grim read. Public executions, homosexual rape, GBH .... But a good story, with Shakespearean depth, and if its portrayal of Afghanistan is true, then also a highly important one.
