Contains the lesser-known novel (and Steinbeck's last work of fiction) The Winter Of Our Discontent. An indicator of what more Steinbeck could've done if he only hadn't been taken from us.

one of my favorite books ever. steinbeck portrays life on the road with his french poodle, charley, as they tramp across the united states in a cabin built on the back of a pickup truck. a perfect read for any wanderluster out there. incredible. steinbeck beautifully portrays life on the road with his french poodle, charley, as they travel around the united states in his cabin built onto the back of a pickup truck. if you suffer from wanderlust, i strongly suggest this book.

We had to read this for Freshman Lit in high school. Who knew then that a book about an old man driving around with his dog would be something that would inspire me to want to be a writer? I found Steinbeck to be the voice of the depression era generation and learned so much about what the country was like through his eyes.
