Dull dull dull! A dissertation on class in England during the 1920s-30s. Not at all a great romance or love story. Even the "sex" scenes aren't that interesting. Highly overrated.
Boring so far! Well, except for the "racy" parts, which really aren't that racy in this day and age...

Were this novel not so graphic (for its time, at least), I doubt many would ever read it. The story was too simple, the characters too undefined, and the language too sophomoric to be taken seriously.

No, it hasn't aged nicely. You didn't expect the sex scenes to be shocking and of course they aren't. Literature has come a long way, since this was a forbidden scandal in the 20s.

But there are other things, which have grown old. Lawrence's civilization criticism is in no way radical anymore and has been expressed much better by later writers. The social family conditions are not even to be criticized today, because in our time they are so eternally different. Besides, the forester is stubborn and unsympathetic and whatever he is, he is not a good lover!

What still goes here are the gentle sarcasms from Lawrence towards Lord Chatterley and his friends intellectual conversations. But still, this is hardly a sexy book.

tends to be read for the erotic content, which is a bit over-rated, imo. good book, nonetheless, of course, by a master writer!!

Surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. I genuinely liked Lady Chatterley and Mellors, and while the story was simple, it held my attention.

Awesome awesome awesome book! I thought that he portrayed love almost exactly as it is, and he managed to work in a lot of details that just made me happy. But it was very dense, so i'll have to read it again to really understand it all.

Never really builds empathy for Lady Chatterley. Also, tough to slog through the tedious social commentary. Not a D. H. Lawrence fan, I guess.

I have to admit to reading this because of the hype; and am so glad I did. Underneath all the ridiculous bother about the sexual content is a love story I'm glad I didn't miss

Written by D. H. Lawrence who is considered the master of romance in English literature, Lady Chatterley’s lover is a novel that encompasses the story of lady named Constance Chatterley who is trapped in bondage of a barren marriage with a person who is unable to satisfy her physical needs. As a normal woman would do, Constance tries to break that bondage. The novel emanated many scandals and was considered pornographic when it was first published. The novel perfectly illustrates the saying that mind without the body is nothing.

The main characters of the story apart from Constance Chatterley are Clifford Chatterley – her upper class husband who has his lover part of the body paralyzed and is hence impotent, and Oliver Mellors – Clifford’s gamekeeper and the one with whom Constance falls in love.

According to me, the title of the story has a vital significance for the novel. Even though Constance has no emotional attachment with his husband but finds pleasure with someone else, she has bondage of the sir name Chatterley attached with herself. Hence, the title - ‘Lady Chatterley’s lover’ is justified.

D. H. Lawrence, as always, has presented the novel in an unparalleled manner. After reading his work ‘Women in Love’, I thought that emotions couldn’t be explained more explicitly but after reading this novel I felt that only Lawrence himself could beat his capability of reaching to the extreme and deep explanation of emotions.

The writing style in the novel is unique and each line or phrase has the deepest of meaning. At many a place in the novel I got so much ensconced into the thoughts while reading the novel that when I got out of that thought process I couldn’t believe that I thought for so long. In my opinion the novel is not a pornographic one and the main theme of the novel is something else which comes out after deeply comprehending the story.

I would recommend this novel to everyone as D. H. Lawrence is a master whose work one cannot afford to miss if one is a student of literature.
