Writing about fighter battles isn't easy. It's hard enough describing a 2D battlefield, and once you take it into 3D it's easy to get bogged down in fancy terminology and technical details. However, without at least some of that it can get really bland. As usual, Abnett manages to walk this fine line to craft a great book that never slows down. What can't this guy write?

Guilty pleasure! Yes, this is game-based dork fiction, but it is game-based dork fiction of the highest caliber! An awesome read for those looking for a good popcorn war story, and an absolute must for fans of the Imperial Guard.

seems to be very based of the battle of britain, i think its a good book, shame the ending comes so quick but good overall

You know you've got a problem when the best fight scene in a book about air combat happens on the ground.... This is by far the worst 40k book I've ever read.... Worse then 15 Hours....

You would be very surprised how readable Dan Abnett's Warhammer 40k books are. I have read a bunch of them and enjoyed them immensely. His writing quality, although not incredible, is nonetheless far ahead of his peers in the franchise novel world. His characters are well-written and believable. Try him out if you are a fan of the WH40K universe.
