Not enough about the Alpha Legion for my liking, hopefully this is just the opening part to a bigger story about the Alpha Legion and their beginnings...

Wow. Abnett put everything in this novel. I love the way the Alpha Legion was swayed to Chaos.

Was somewhat disapointed with this one. Looked like it was on its way to be Abnett's worst book by far but he manages to salavage it with the ending, which proposes one of the more original reasons for a Legion to rebel against the Imperium.

Dan's second Heresy book is just as captivating as his first. Once through the reinvention of language and the set up of main characters this tale truly makes you question everything you've ever read about the Heresy. Long live Alpharius! Long live the Alpha Legion!

This was a good book on it's own, but the Horus Heresy has entered a state in which the authors are pushing to explain "chapter origins"

A landmark book in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Abnett's focus for the novel is espionage rather than mass combat. Legion takes the reader deep into the murky world of Imperial intelligence and reveals details about the hidden war of subversion that has no respect for the battle lines of the Great Crusade. Similar to the authors Inquisitor novels, Legion expands the Warhammer 40,000 universe by showing the agenda and machinations of individuals who cannot be easily categorised by the Imperial truth of Loyalist, Traitor, Xenos and Mutant. This book forces the reader to ask many questions from ‘how far does loyalty go?’ to ‘what can one man do to change the fate of the galaxy?’ When the action reaches its conclusion we are left to mull over the consequences of the primarch Alpharius’s secret and the realization that our perception of humanities role in the galaxy will be forever changed. A fantastic read.

A different pace from the other books, this story is less about the Astartes and more about the Imperial Army. However, the Alpha Legion are there in the background ... watching ... waiting. Filled with subterfuge and deceit, this book seems to take ages to go going and then ends with a bang!
