Very disappointing. It was recommended by a review in New Scientist, and I can see why, lots of quarks, black holes and string theory - but badly written and just too contrived. Struggled to finish it and gave up about 20 pages before the end.

A solid first novel, reads a lot like early Crichton or solo Douglas Preston or Lincoln Child. What would happen if Einstein found a unified theory of everthing, but after the atomic bomb, realized it could be a potent weapon? What if people today wanna get thier hands on it? A great plot, decent thriller-writing and interesting characters...

Almost a replica of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, except they are chasing the Holy Grail of Physics, that being Eintstein's final theory, or theory of everything. Mark Alpert does an excellent job a creating suspense from the very beginning to the very end. I would've awarded this book 5 stars had it contained a more shocking twist.

Final Theory is a good thriller in the mode of Robert Ludlum – in other words, our hero is thrust into the adventure, all unprepared and unsuspecting, but somehow, with the aid of his beautiful and appropriately talented heroine, evades all the bad guys and come to final success. I’m sure you’ve read the details of the story elsewhere. I enjoyed it; it’s a good read for the train or the plane. The author certainly knows how to keep your interest and keep those pages turning. Every time you think the hero has escaped, another problem surfaces – it’s like a video game, with increasingly difficult levels till you win out at the end. My only real criticism is that many of the characters are cardboard cut-outs, especially the army and politicians.
