Fascinating to think that Defoe was writing these in the 18th C...in the Puritan era! Strange novel indeed. A man writing the diary of a prostitute, with every suggestion that he is celebrating it. Moll is an intriguing figure - attractive and clever

A portrayal of an 18th century girl/woman, whose chief preoccupation is to get by. Thus, she is involved in many conundrums, most of which turn out to be not quite what she expected of them. An anti-heroine, whose mischiefs engross the reader, who somewhat sympathises with her for the times she has been born in.

Awesome! Written in the 1720's and set about 100 years prior, "Moll Flanders" tell of the adventures that befall the title character. Similiar to a female "Tom Jones", Moll does the best she can is a series of shifting circumstances. Husbands die, her children are given to relatives -- and later to anonymous strangers. But through the redeeming power of love, and friendship, everything turns out all right in the end. But before that, they get pretty ugly...
