The prime example, as shown in many tales, of creating what you fear. If Oedipus's family hadn't feared the prophecy, it would not have happened.

Very disturbing. Don't read this if you don't want to think about it for the rest of your life. Oedipus is born to his mother who is warned before he is born that bad stuff is going to happend so instead of killing him like she is supposed to she leaves him in the wild where he is found and saved, of course, and then all of the bad stuff happens, in the end, he pokes his own eyes out with a pin and after he looses his physical sight he gains a "deeper" sight and has to live with that. For a guy who wrote this that didn't have electricity or modern medicine this in incredibly deep thinking and every bit as true today as the day it was written. CLASSIC!

What a classic! This book is worth read if not for the literary than the modern-day references' value. However, it's fairly disturbing and quite depressing, it's interesting, a great conversational book/ debatable book, and a good one to ponder on! Enjoy!

I just expected a bit more drama, it is hard to top Morrison, eventhough he repeats this story.

it is simply a classic tale which teaches all of us not to be quick to judge lest we judge ourselves.it also teaches us to be careful of what we say cos we may b forced to use it on ourselves e.g like making rules to favour us forgetting that in some years to come it will be used against us.

Read it over and over, each time you will learn something new about Oedipus, about pride and the real definition of tragedy. Then write a big old college paper on it and NEVER read it again... just kidding, then read it again for fun.
