Jay has translated so much of Murakami, he has walked through his brain, so to speak. This offers a very intimate impression

Getting to know Murakami through a critical biography is like hearing a tune you already heard in a dream. Rubin's criticism is informed by love of his subject, but this is an unnecessary book.All the same, Jay Rubin knows his writing better than anybody and writes English with a poet's ear, so this book is still a pleasure.
