L'indiscutable sommet de la nouvelle littéraire française. je ne sais pas ce qui ne lui permet pas d'être la numéro 1 mondiale...avez-vous une idée ?

Simple, stark - yet full of love and life, this is one of the most striking novellas I've read. I recommend it highly.

Read it more than 30 years ago, never forgot it. This was the novella that really sparked my appreciation of Flaubert's writing style. A heart-rending tale of a lonely, elderly and poor woman who comes to believe that her pet parrott, long ago stuffed by a taxidermist, is the embodiment of the Holy Spirt. Her devotion to the parrot gives meaning to her otherwise bleak life. Sounds goofy but is in fact entirely moving and thought-provoking.

this books leaves you wondering.i read the book and felt like i haven;t read it at all... lol... this looks weird. but i guess it's because Flaubert doesn;t interfere at any moment. it;s blunt. yet it leaves you thinking about Felicite and her life.
