There are only a select number of books I enjoy that are told from the perspective of a first person narrative, this wasn't one of them. As an intellectual endeavor I found Céline's deliberate disregard of his reader frustrating more than enlightening or entertaining. "Traditional" novella structure can go play with itself in a corner for all I care, but this voice was something different - might be something lost in translation.

This is truly a journey. A book all pro-war/pro-oppression types should read.

Louis-Ferdinand plays himself in this adventure fictional account during the second World War. It is a tulmultuos novel written in a very sensational style that is very brilliant and yet unappologeticaly nihilistic. It is in his word combination that one finds themselves hurling into the very blunt realization that humanity has gone insane, has dehumanized themselves through cultural-indoctrination. The perfect companion for the Drunken Philosopher or the aspiring intellectual. This rough and tumble adventure drag us kicking and screaming all over Europe and, aye! to the Western Lands, home of the Great Work (already in progress), AMERICA--THE SHINNING EMPIRE!!! This book is VERY GOOD, I recomend it highly!! AND! I intend on reading its companion book, Death on the Installment Plan!!
