This is one of the realest books I've ever read. John Steinbeck has a way of reaching into the hidden depths of the country and unseen troubles that most people don't want to encounter and face up to. He glorifies the underdog and focuses greatly on the hardships and is amazing with his words.

I read this one at school also and had an exam on it so we talked through the book quite a lot. There was some definate themes in this book and it had an ok storyline. The ending fitted in well with the title of the book even though it was really sad

I read this at school, i love the story of two friends who stay together, I cried at the end of the book, not just out of sadness but out also becuase what George does was hard and a selfless act!!
