"Tomorrow. The word hangs in the air for a moment, both a promise and a threat. Then it floats away like a paper boat, take from her by the water licking her ankles."

Enjoyable read. Nicely written. Enjoyed descriptive prose portraying Bombay and the chasms that separate the classes. The characters seemed to be extremes making the storyline predictable.

Thrity Umrigar weaves a touching, stark story around the complex relationship between two women who share so much but are separated by a matter of class. The space between upper middle and lower. Set within the Parsi community, her dispassionate look behind the closed doors of Sera, an affluent yet abused Parsi widow and Bhima, her poverty stricken maid paints a vivid portrait of what we all have seen but refuse to acknowledge. Highly recommended.
