2009. Read this to/with my 7 y/o daughter, we both loved it (5 y/o son listened to most of it as well). I'm sure I would have been all over these books as a kid! We watched the movie together after finishing (I had seen the movie previously), and I was very glad that they did such a good job of being faithful to the story and bringing that world to life.

It's really interesting to return to this book a week before the final installment will come out -- seen in view of the series as a whole, SS/PS is really a fantastic prologue. It introduces Harry's world in a truly fascinating way, but the troubles faced are on such a smaller and less dire scale than in the later books. It really makes you aware of how things get ramped up later on -- this book is sort of like the teaser trailer to the rest of the series. It's absolutely indispensible -- information here sets up the whole story, obviously, and even small details, easily overlooked, will come back as major plot points later on -- but it's far from the most riveting of the series.

This book is truly a classic now. I don't think I have ever read a book quite like Harry Potter ever before and soon I'll be finishing the series, which also makes me sad because my generation has grown up with Harry Potter and to know that it is now coming to an end, makes me really sad. I have quite enjoyed these books over the years. They have got me through some really boring and tough times. Although thankfully I enjoy re-reading and will probably do so with this series.

Fun read and great escape. It's always nice to have a fantasy read to get away from reality every once in a while. J.K. Rowling also does a great job to keep readers enticed and has an amazing imagination that keeps drawing you into the story until the book is finished and you are waiting for more. The Harry Potter books were always hard to put down, I definitely read right through them and wouldn't mind reading through them again!

My reason for reading Harry Potter was because of my youngest son. Nick was in 4th grade(now he's a senior in high school). I was hearing good and bad things about the series. Mostly bad. So I decided to read the first book. It was so hard for me to finish the first chapter BUT when I did.....IT WAS A WRAP!!!! I'm crazy about Harry!!!!

As a teacher I felt I should read at least one Harry Potter book to see what my students were reading so excitedly...needless to say, I read this book in two days and was in the store buying all the books that were out at the time. I spent the next two weeks catching up. I became an instant Harry Potter fan and have read the entire series...even stood in line for the new books as the rest came out. Definately my favorite book series!

Bona novela juvenil, que es nota que és la presentació d'alguna gran història, perquè no passen grans coses, però et permet fer-te una idea d'un impressionant treball d'ambientació imaginari al voltant del món de Potter i dels mags i bruixes. Entretingut i original, ben escrit, fàcil de llegir, i divertit. Un bon principi.

Fell in love with the Harry Potter books because of the movies and now they are amongst some of favorite books to read. JK Rowling has created a fascinating world for Harry Potter and his friends and some very multi-faceted characters to follow and care about what happens to them.

What else can one say that hasn't already been said about these books. Read them, all of them. Get them for your kids, for anyone who loves to read. Aside from the wonderful world she has created there are so many life lessons within.

I was really impressed when I read this book. J.K. Rowling really knows that her target audience was about fifth grade and was able to write to them without being degrading. She assumed that they would be intelligent and wrote accordingly.

the 1st 4 books were good, and book 5 wasn't too bad, but i hated book 6&7 so much i hate the series
