Charlotte Bronte's finest novel, autobiographical, tender and heartbreaking; Vilette is infinitely more interesting and less conventional than Jane Eyre and much more sophisticated and adult. As a result it has never had the popularity of its lesser cousin.

A good novel to read at bedtime. But too negative and too depressing. I don't like the ending.

Only one my favourite classics...its breath-takingly moral but not in a self-condemning way...just read it...!!!

I was kind of disappointed with this book; the plot is not nearly as interesting or satisfying as Jane Eyre. I mean, you can tell by this book she developed as a writer; she has very vivid descriptions of characters and scenery and such, but I think it falls into the category of one of those 19th century novels that's just too long for its own good. If you want to read some Charlotte Bronte, read JE first. Way better. \n

I truly loved this book, and I didn\'t know it until after I was done. The end took me by surprise, and I bawled my eyes out!!! I can\'t give it away, but I didn\'t expect it.
