I agree with Katie. I was definitely disappointed in this book. I especially didn't enjoy the writer's choice of explicit words. They were not necessary for the story line or character development and ruined a nice love story.

Although I felt excited when this was the book chosen for our book club last month, I found that the book was very dull and I had to force myself to read the entire thing. However, I will still go to see the movie starring Eric Bana and I hope that will be more entertaining.

A very well crafted love story. It sounds cheesy but it made me laugh and it made me cry...which for me is a rare thing in a book. I would say I defy any straight woman not to fall in love with the character of Henry by about 20 pages in but I know someone who hated all the characters and the book so clearly it is possible- as a side point why they've cast Eric Bana in the role in the movie is beyond me because he is totally not how I imagined the character. The main characters are beautiful complex human beings and even the minor characters are well developed- so much so that when many of them disappear for pages on end you find yourself still remembering them. For the first section of the book I was reminded in parts of A.S.Byatt's brilliant novel Possession and was highly amused when it was later quoted not once but twice.

On a more trivial note, it had me from the outset as it is the fist time I've read a book with a main character called Clare who spelt her name correctly (i.e. the same way as I do).

Romantic. Read this before you watch the movie... guess the surprise element isn't there anymore if you do it the other way. But still, a very nice and pleasant read.

Buz took it upon himself to lend me this book without my ever making any mention of it. He was probably reminded of it with the recent movie, knew I was a bookworm, and thought I'd enjoy it. Well, I did.

It's a funny thought, how the protagonist's and his daughter's past, present, and future are causes and effects of themselves. I never want to think too hard about the possible logic (or loopholes) of the timeline(s). It's also a little bit depressing, the thought of the inevitability of everything, since the premise is that if one self has already lived it, then other self (or selves) who haven't will never have the "choice" to change things - they just can't. That's just so... futile. But anyway, overall, it was a nice romance story.

I wonder what it would be like to rearrange all the "chapters" chronologically. Would it be fun doing that? And would it bring a new perspective to the story? Of course, I'm not about to try doing it.
