A surprise attack in the night leaves everyone with a strange lapse in their memory. No one remembers Kahlan Amnell, the Mother Confessor, except for Richard Rahl. He must fight against Jagang while struggling to maintain his own sanity, as the world he knew slowly decends into darkness.

You can practically here Richard yell 'fu-------' and then bash his brains out in frustration. Thankfully I finished this book. Oh and torture.

I have read this before, but am re-reading in anticipation of finally finishing Goodkind's epic 11 book series. This is not his very best. Still very good but not the gold standard. I love the series but would have to place this book near the bottom of the list in a list of relative strength.

Another one of those Richard & Kahlan books, i havent been reading them in order but this one is GOOD, it really shows the tender side of Richard & has confirmed my suspicions about his close female followers all along :)

I've been on a bit of a heroic fantasy kick of late, and that includes finishing the Wizard's First Rule Series. What started as one of the best series I'd read has slowly ebbed in energy, as Goodkind has taken to long expositions on political theory, as well as the mechanics of magic. While I'm sympathetic to some of his views, I prefer not to be hit over them head with them - writing suffers when the story is no longer primary. OTOH, I am glad this series is wrapping up, and will provide some resolution. So, I liked, but certainly didn't love this (and other recent books in the series).

Better than the previous book, but still a bit "preachy" in parts. Warning: the ending is less complete than probably any previous book in the series. Leaves you needing to read the next book right away to continue the story line
