Although I am an Asian American myself and should be able to relate to this book, I honestly didn't really enjoy it and found it quite stereotypical.

In my opinion it is Amy Tan's best book and is 100x better than the movie even though I love the movie too.

I bought this book b/c I had to read it for my multicultural english class...its about 4 ladies that start a gathering every week. Each week that they gather, they throw money into a basket and they play some card game. At each gathering they have to forgive each other for past wrongdoings like its a new year. They eat food and play for money. Their daughters are also mentioned in the book. Its an okay book...pretty long...but a good read.

If you havent seen the movie or read the book your missing out. It tells of the life of several Asian women from their childhood to their adult lives and the ongoing struggles they've faced before coming to America and after. Get your popcorn out, get comfy and enjoy this one. Let me know what you thought of the book or movie, but to get a visual definitely rent the DVD.
