weRead is a really fun place to work with lots of challenging problems to solve. It has a unique mix of a startup environment and facilities of a bigger company. Most of the time we are solving the problems of scale and the most interesting part is trying out newer methods and algorithms for collaborative filtering. We mostly use the collaborative filtering algorithms for building a system for recommending books to our users. Recently we have started work on using content to improve the recommendations for users, the fun part is pushing it to the users and waiting for their feedback. The scale at which we are growing brings the challenge of figuring out how to get the last bit or performance from the servers.
